Looking for a Vultr alternative?

On Vultr, getting help means opening a ticket or filling in a contact form. Here, a person answers chat in a median of under 2 minutes, on every account. A dedicated 1 vCPU, 2 GB server on AMD EPYC in us-west-0 costs $26.88 a month here ($22.56 on our Intel tier) and $28 on Vultr. And we don't bill for traffic, so once a 2 vCPU, 8 GB server sends out more than about 7,600 GB a month, ours is the cheaper one.

Best Vultr alternatives in 2026

The clouds people leaving Vultr look at, and the kind of team each one fits. We're first.

  • American Cloud

Teams who want chat support that answers in minutes, dedicated servers in sizes from 1 vCPU and 1 GB, and outbound traffic that never reaches the bill.

  • DigitalOcean

Teams that want simple virtual servers with an app platform on top. We compare the two line by line on its own page.

  • Hetzner

Teams that want a German company, with cloud servers in Germany, Finland, Singapore and the US.

  • Akamai Cloud (Linode)

Teams already using Akamai's network. Linode is now part of Akamai Cloud.

  • AWS

Teams that need hundreds of managed services, in regions worldwide. We price the same production stack on both, on a page of its own.

  • OVHcloud

Teams that want dedicated servers or a private cloud from a French company with a large European footprint.

  • CubePath

Teams that want small AMD EPYC servers with DDoS protection included.

How a server is sold on each

Monthly list prices in US dollars, against Vultr's dedicated-CPU plans. Vultr gives each new server a public IP at no listed charge, so our prices include our $1 public IP. Some Vultr locations price differently.

We took the Vultr prices from its pricing pages and docs on November 5, 2026. Ours come from our pricing page.

Where the two bills cross

One dedicated 2 vCPU, 8 GB, 50 GB server for a month, by how much it sends out. Vultr's column is its General Purpose plan, as the only server on the account.

Vultr: $60 a month with 5 TB out included, plus 2 TB per account, then $0.01 per GB. The 5 TB is 5,120 GB, so with the account's 2 TB the allowance is 7,168 GB.

Ours: $63.13 on the monthly term plus the $1 public IP. Traffic costs nothing at any volume. On our AMD tier, it's $76.75 at every row, which meets Vultr at about 8,850 GB.

Each extra Vultr server on the account adds its own allowance.

Where we beat Vultr

A reply in minutes, from the first message

On Vultr, a problem becomes a ticket, and if you're locked out of your account, an email. Here you open chat in the console and a person answers, and half our replies arrive in under 2 minutes. Every account gets it, and there's no support plan to buy. Capterra reviewers rate our customer service 4.7 out of 5.

Sizes that fit a small service

Vultr's dedicated plans start at 1 vCPU and 2 GB, and its 2 vCPU plans start at 4 GB. If yours needs less, you pay for the next size up. Here you pick vCPU, RAM and disk separately, so 1 vCPU and 1 GB is a real server, and a worker that needs two cores and little memory gets exactly that.

Heavy months cost the same as quiet ones

Vultr's allowance builds up hour by hour while a server runs, so a server started for the last 10 days of a month earns about 1.8 TB of its 5 TB, and every GB past the allowance costs $0.01. Its object storage charges for every TB served past the first. A bucket that holds 200 GB and serves 3 TB a month costs $38 there and $5 here. We don't charge for outbound traffic on servers, Kubernetes, object storage or the load balancer, so a launch week costs what a quiet week does. As Aron Wagner, our CEO, puts it: "It's a fixed cost for us and a fixed cost for our customers."

How the move works

Build each server here at the size the app needs, not the size Vultr sold it, and copy the data across while Vultr keeps serving. Switch DNS. Once you're sure, destroy the Vultr servers: on Vultr, a stopped server still bills.

  • Instances become VMs here. Set your software up again and copy files with rsync, once while Vultr serves traffic and once more, briefly, at cutover.
  • For each Vultr block storage volume, create one here and copy the data across.
  • Vultr Object Storage is S3-compatible, so buckets copy straight to ours with rclone.
  • For Vultr Kubernetes Engine workloads, apply the same manifests to a managed cluster here.
  • Dump a managed PostgreSQL or MySQL database with pg_dump or mysqldump, and restore it into ours.
  • Recreate your firewall rules, DNS records and load balancers here, then switch DNS. Keep the Vultr servers until you're sure, so going back is one DNS change.

Price the new servers in the pricing calculator, or read about Cloud Compute, Kubernetes and Object Storage. Before you switch DNS, run your domain through our free DNS lookup and save its records and TTLs. Run it again after the switch to see when Cloudflare and Google return the new address.

Questions before you switch

Is Vultr an American company?

Yes. Vultr's terms are a contract with The Constant Company, LLC, its address is in West Palm Beach, Florida, and it was founded in 2014. American Cloud, LLC is American too: we run in 3 US zones, and we own and operate the OpenColo data center in Santa Clara, California.

Is Vultr cheaper than AWS?

On list price, yes. Vultr's dedicated 2 vCPU, 8 GB server is $60 a month, and AWS's m7i.large (2 vCPU, 8 GiB) is $73.58. AWS charges $0.09 per GB out after the first 100 GB, so 5,000 GB in a month costs $441 there. That fits inside Vultr's allowance for one such server. On American Cloud, outbound traffic costs nothing at any volume.

Is Vultr trustworthy?

In March 2024, a Reddit post said Vultr's terms gave it rights to customer content. Vultr said the clause covered its public forum and that it was removing the language, and its terms today say it claims no proprietary rights in your content. Ours give us a license to host your data only as far as we need to run the service.

Which VPS host is the best?

The one that answers when something breaks. For a US team in production, that's the first thing we'd test, then whether you can size each server to its app and whether a busy month changes the bill. We built American Cloud to pass all three.
